KONO Food Alley
Summary
KONO Food Alley was created as an expression of frustration.
After years of delays due to planning and permitting runarounds, I ran an experiment to bring mobile food vendors to the parking lot of our proposed construction site and instantly joined the family of a thriving community of chef-hustlers.
The coverage we received from local publications like the SF Chronicle, Berkeleyside, and EBX were a testament to the hardworking nature of our lineup of food entrepreneurs.
The concept and the location may have brought the people, but the food kept them coming. The combination of hyperlocal marketing (very early mornings setting up street signs) and newspaper coverage put us on the map. We served nearly a hundred people each day from an area in Oakland served solely by hospital cafeterias.
